if, in that partition, the ISOs are in the directory /a/b/c/RedHat, the directory name i'd feed as the location

Just place the isos in /a/b/c and say that the location of the ISOs is /a/b/c. No need for a RedHat subdirectory
I can verify what Jeremy wrote - I tried that approach this morning. Just boot the installer with "linux askmethod" then select the device and enter the path of the directory containing the iso's.
since i just got back to my system with the online docs, what you're saying is that that's changed since RH 8.0. in the
official 8.0 install guide, i read "... if the ISO images are in
/test/new/RedHat, you would enter /test/new".
I don't know if the procedure has changed since 8.0, but I do know that the approach I tried (mentioned above) does work on RH 9.
