Title: RE: NIS Server/Client setup
Thanks Drew for your help.
Ive discovered the man pages and they are helping a lot. I'll go now and have a look at the yp.conf and ypserv.conf files etc

thanks

The best place to go is the man pages.  If you are looking at doing auto mounted home directories don't forget to look up autofs, exportfs and exports.  Look at /etc/yp.conf, /etc/ypserv.conf, /var/yp/Makefile.  Take a look at the init scripts ypbind, and ypserv.  They will give you a lot of hints on where to look for stuff and what to look at.

Regards,

Drew

Subject: NIS Server/Client setup

Hi,

Im a newby to linux and trying my best to get things going but really struggling to get off the ground in places. I need a way for linux clients to log-on to a linux network using accounts ?(like a windows domain). I have believe a NIS server/client setup may be the way to go but i'm not to sure if this is the best way and I've tried to follow the How To's but I just cant get NIS to work at all :( All the step-by-steps I have found tell me to use the yp programs like 'make' etc BUT HOW? Does anyone have a NIS step-by-step install and config guide for a beginner to understand ? I just can't find one that is clear and understandable...

steve
