I had a similar problem.  System would run for some number of hours and 
then hang.  

I believed this to be a heat problem with the motherboard.  Replaced the
heat sink and the case (4 fans).  I also had been running the xmatrix
screen saver which I disabled.  So far things have continued to run.

Not sure if the screen saver had anything to do with it.  Plan to
re-enable that in a few days.
