It all depends on what you mean by 'system performance' the 'top' command monitors memory and processes, it's free. snort monitors network intrusion, it's free. snmp monitors many different systems, and many different parameters on those systems, it's free. mrtg makes easy to read graphics for snmp and many other process monitor applications., it's free. There are hundreds of others that monitor the same and different aspects of system performance. you might want to search 'freshmeat.net' to narrow your search, if you have something specific in mind.
