XD2 is a just differet version of GNOME.
It will replace several Red Hat supplied packages. KDE should still be OK, but most GNOME and GTK apps will be affected. Also, if you decide to go back to Red Hat GNOME, it can be difficult to remove all the Ximian packages and find the correct replacements. It may be better than before, but I expect removal to still be problematic.
