I got -

whereis mysql
mysql: /usr/bin/mysql /usr/lib/mysql /usr/share/mysql
/usr/share/man/man1/mysql.1.gz


Red Hat does not yet provide MySQL 4 in their distributions. If you
use their RPM for MySQL 3.23.whatever, you'd have the needed libraries.

Since you have MySQL 4, you didn't get it from Red Hat. The libraries
may be on your system, you'll just have to find them. Where is the
mysql client binary installed? The libraries you want might be nearby.

$ whereis mysql
