Do you get a mailer-daemon back?
That should give some clue.

Did you check /var/log/maillog?

How are you sending the mail?  With a GUI app?
If so, by-pass that now and make sure your mailer
is actually working.
Try sending from mutt, or if you are using sendmail try,

echo "Tesing my mail..." | sendmail -v someuser@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Those should give you a place to start................
