network interfaces moving...

During the install of some systems that have mulitple network cards, the 
installer will assign eth0 to say the e100 adapter.  Once the install 
finishes though, the new installed kernel will find say e1000 first, and move 
eth0 to e1000.  This is causing a lot of problems.  Is there any way to hard 
set the aliases at boot time, with a kernel parameter?  Such as kernel 
/vmlinuz~ eth0=e1000 eth1=e100 ?
