it can't work...do u just place env LANG=C in the script file? i tried
stating it in env but still can't work

Gedit is UTF8 aware, vi is not. I don't believe in coincidence in software.
Try prepending "env LANG=C" to your password command. I bet this was your
tripwire problem, too.
