What specifically, have you done to "try to setup the local network?"

And a better layout of your network would probably help.
ie Are you using one Linux box as your firewalled connection
to the would, and others on a LAN?

Such a common problem, which is not really a problem, but I
wish they would change.........

The firewall tool does not query the current settings of the
firewall when it loads.  It just defaults to high.
Just set it to medium or off, save it, and it'll be what you set it to.

Hummmmm........well.....you DO connect to the outside world.

When playing around setting up your "local network", did you happen
to change that by default was IP 127.0.0.1  ?
In /etc/hosts maybe?

That can screw up LOTS of local things.
