problem with modem, cdrom, sonykey

Currently, I have installed RH8.0 (Kernel 2.18.14, i686) on my sony GRX520 but still have some problems. I am greatly appreciated if you can help me figure out how to fix it.

1                     Modem. I have installed the soft driver for the modem and configured it from the graphical interface program in RH. But when I try to dial, it says cannot resolve such an address.

2                     My sonykeyd doesn’t. The jogdial works when I manually run sonypid but it has no response if I exit sonypid.

3                     There is no /dev/cdrom in my /dev directory. So I manually added it but when I mounted cdrom, it says there is no such a block device. When the system boots up, it detects the cdrom to be hdc, and is a scsi device. But when I mount use /dev/sr, /dev/hdc, it doesn’t work.

4                     I tried to install rpm to tune the CPU speed but when it returned that it should be run by other user even I have set everything to root and ran it as the root.

5                     Acpi patch seems cannot be installed to the system even the kernel version stuff is the same as my system. Does it no need to patch such a patch in my version of RH?
