I'm not sure how far out of sync your clock is, but if you're too far out of sync ntpd will not sync your clock and you'll have to run ntpdate initially to set the clock back in line. Once the clock has been set back, ntpd should set the system clock just fine. As for a config file, all I have are three lines.... server <server_1_ip> server <server_2_ip> driftfile /etc/ntp/ntp.drift ------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Hoover District Network Engineer Norfolk Public Schools 628-3810 x3045 >>> psyche-list-request@redhat.com 02/26/03 09:28AM >>> From: "Carlos A. Tried the restrict directive but still ntpd does not affect the machine time. To test it, I stop the ntpd service, set an invalid time in the machine and start the ntpd service again. The machine keeps the invalid time. I am able to sync the machine time using the "Time Server" option of the "time&date" module in "Webmin". So the problem is not the network, firewall or remote server. It seems I will have to spend the rest of the week reading the (extensive) ntp documentation :-(.
