Thanks for all the replies.

I found the slashdot article which points to
this page in IBM land
http://www-105.ibm.com/developerworks/education.nsf/linux-onlinecourse-bytitle/7E31B64596CDAAFB86256CB7004E9978?open&ca=dgr-lnxw01UserMode.
You have to register for it. The tutorial looks interesting.

I did see the Source Forge site http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/.

I am looking for more on how Red Hat has designed their implementation of UML. One thing I find interesting is that they offer UML on just i686 class machines.

In light of Michael Young's observation, I wonder if UML is an add on in RH 8.0 and in RH 8.1 UML is fully integrated with the distribution in that there is no seperate kernel offering? UML would be available just like support for a CD-ROM drive is now. I also wonder if the UML user land tools are throw in one of the other system oriented packages in 8.0, or 8.1?

So If I plan to use UML part of the time, then I would use
rpm -ivh kernel-uml...
This would give me an entry in grub that I could select when I power on my workstation.
If I plan to have UML available all of the time, then I would use
rpm -Fvh kernel-uml...
Does this sound correct?

One of my interests is in UML development with a stripped down linux distro that runs off a floppy or readonly cdrom. The distro is a firewall. The documentation found here
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/uml.html
talks about debian, but I'd prefer to use Red Hat. Hence my interest in RH UML.

Thanks again,
Greg Morgan
