I've been struggling to make NTP actually set my clock on 8.0 (first time I've used it). I've done a whole ream of different things after asking for help on comp.protocols.time.ntp, but no joy. Even simplistically, with the RH-shipped ntp.conf, in the RH date config. utility, when I try to tick the 'NTP' box reports that it can't get a reply and maybe my firewall needds checking - but I tried it with the firewall wide-open for the host I listed (and double checked - no logged dropped packets, and ethereal shows NTP UDP stuff coming in OK). I also get the following (same host) out of ntpdate (but I couldn't say for certain what state the ntp.conf was in at the time, so that may have affected this test): $ sudo ntpdate -d ntp.cis.strath.ac.uk 22 Jan 06:20:29 ntpdate[2320]: ntpdate 4.1.1a@1.791 Sat Aug 31 18:27:31 EDT 2002 (1) transmit(130.159.196.118) transmit(130.159.196.118) transmit(130.159.196.118) receive(130.159.196.118) receive: pkt.org and peer.xmt differ transmit(130.159.196.118) transmit(130.159.196.118) 130.159.196.118: Server dropped: no data server 130.159.196.118, port 123 stratum 0, precision 0, leap 00, trust 000 refid [0.0.0.0], delay 0.00000, dispersion 64.00000 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: 00000000.00000000 Thu, Feb 7 2036 6:28:16.000 originate timestamp: 00000000.00000000 Thu, Feb 7 2036 6:28:16.000 transmit timestamp: c1d8b6b0.b6e0f3cb Wed, Jan 22 2003 6:20:32.714 filter delay: 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.00000, dispersion 64.00000 offset 0.000000 22 Jan 06:20:33 ntpdate[2320]: no server suitable for synchronization found Any & all help appreciated!
