folks,

i am trying to create a set of intel-based field systems with pci SCSI
and RAID, with R.H. 8.x. i tried the install with existing systems, to
no avail- cards not supported. went to the R.H. site to look for
compatibility, found a list that should show "certified"
adapters...using "advanced search" i looked for controllers that were
supported by 8.x, that could do RAID, and it found ONE (3ware) !!! you
must be joking!
i have already discovered that my old fave, Adaptec, is not supported
except for their ISA cards made while motorola was the popular chip for
Unix... and that while some hacks are available, they do not work for
setting up 8.x... (put drivers on a disk, press F2 when prompted and
nothing happens) perhaps the would in an upgrade scenario.

please excuse the frustration, but can someone please help? i could have
bought several computers with the time i have already spent on this. i
am a fan of Unix, but this is not a good reflection of utility.

please help restore my faith,

I have successfully installed RH8 (with included drivers) on

Mylex AccelleRAID 352 2-channel SCSI RAID board.
Adaptec I2O based controllers (2100, 2400A, and other in that family).

I also have found the compatibility database to be of little use in the last couple years.
