to post...  When you see the post hit the mailing list, you know it
succeeded.  If you don't see it after a few hours, then you have a
pretty good idea that something went wrong.  Though in the latter
case, you'll usually get some sort of bounce from one mail system or
another (possibly the list software itself)...
