Has anyone got also to work with RH 8.0, specifically with the Asus
on-board cmpci sound?

I am trying to get avview working with sound but can't seem to
understand all I need to do to get alsa working.

I installed the following RPMS:
alsa-utils-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1
alsa-kernel-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1_2.4.18_19.8.0
alsa-lib-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1
alsa-driver-0.9.0-fr0rc6.1

that I got from: psyche.freshrpms.net (I rebuilt the kernel one for
the current kernel).

>From what I could gather in the documentation I needed to put some
lines in the modules.conf file. Mine currently looks like:

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias eth0 3c59x
alias usb-controller usb-ohci
alias usb-controller1 ehci-hcd
#alias sound-slot-0 cmpci
#post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L
>/dev/null 2>&
1 || :
#pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S
>/dev/null 2>&1
|| :
alias usb-controller2 usb-uhci
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394

alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 cmpci

#alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias snd-card-0 cmpci
alias snd-card-1 cmpci
alias snd-card-2 cmpci
alias snd-card-3 cmpci

I then gathered that I need to start alsa so I did:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/alsactl start
Saving ALSA mixer settings [FAILED]

Nothing shows up in /var/log/messages

With only snd-card-0, I get errors about missing the other sound cards.

I've got video from the tv tuner working fine with avview, but it
would be nice to have sound :-). Any ideas or pointers to helpful
documentation? I don't seem to understand the alsa documentation.

Thanks,
Dave
