Mount Rainier CD-RW support + 2.4.18-14 kernel

I ordered an IDE CD-RW drive that has Mount Rainier support (the drive is currently on back order). I am going to remove the CD-ROM drive currently installed in that box, and install this CD-RW drive. We are using Psyche with the 2.4.18-14 kernel.

I've tried to find information about Mount Rainier, twice, in the Red Hat Linux 8.0 Documentation Bundle and in the book, "Red Hat Linux 8 Bible", but didn't see any mention of Mount Rainier. Also, I looked in the CD-RW "How To" on the Documentation CD, but that's from the year 2000 and has nothing about the Mount Rainier technology.

Question: Will I need to reconfigure the kernel, or, add a loadable module to use the Mount Rainier technology? If so, please point me in the right direction, so I can read up on this.

TIA, for your time and help.
