Here's one Red Hat made earlier:

$ rhn-applet-gui
could not figure out kernel

ain't there yet
I don't think acquiring the actual level of the kernel is too difficult,
(yep, just checked that - uname(1) calls uname(2)) so I think there's
something else untoward going on.
