large IDE disks (>137GB) and IDE controller cards

Does anyone have any success stories with using larger IDE disks, specifically 160GB or more, with a PCI IDE controller card?

I was interested in using a Promise Ultra133 TX2 IDE card and attaching four Maxtor 160GB disks, but a search for the card on the hardware compatibility list at Red Hat produced no hits. The support section of Promise's website show patches for the 2.4.18 and 2.4.19 kernels.

Are those patches, or functional equivalents, already rolled into the stock Red Hat kernel?

Has anyone had any problems running with such a setup?

The system I am considering this for will use a Shuttle AK35GTR/2 motherboard with on-board IDE RAID. I'm planning to add the 4 disks on the card, leave the onboard RAID alone, and add a smaller disk for the OS. I don't think this will cause a problem, but I'm not an IDE expert either.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Tom
