8.1.7 was originally intended for 6.x, so you are two major releases
different, so things are likely to be difficult, particularly since Oracle
seems to require partial compiling/linking on install.

Actually, 8.1.7 isn't certified on RHAS 2.1, the latest release 8.1.7 is
certified on is 7.1.
