Thanks Mike for your answer, I just get an answer that works from
another source and it works perfectly...

Hi Lucien,

Don't worry, it's a common mistake. I'm trying to make the instructions
newbie-proof, but I haven't quite succeeded.

You've installed the wrong version. The kernel is very sensitive to
changes in the kernel. For most software you can install the i386
version; it's code without any optimisations, but you probably want the
i686 version. From the instructions:

"If you have a old Pentium, you should use If you have a recent Pentium
(II, III, IV) you should use the i686 version. Old-Pentium users should
try i586 and Athlon (AMD-K6) users, should use the athlon version. I
doubt anyone would need to use the i386 version."

First try and uninstall the old version "rpm -e kernel-ntfs" or if that
doesn't work, just "rpm -Uhv --force" the new rpm.

Hope this helps,
  FlatCap (Rich)
  rpm@flatcap.org

If you have any idea about installing a Eicon Diva Adsl modem, I will
appreciate the help...

Take care,
Lucien.

Red Hat doesn't ship their kernels with NTFS enabled. You will need to
recompile their/your own kernel and enable it.
