Indeed, that sounds useful/cool.

Someone just added a Nautilus feature to GNOME 2.1.x so you can add
per-mime-type property pages. So it should be reasonably trivial to
add font information to the Properties... dialog for fonts, for
example.

A font browser is probably still handy, even with that.

This kind of thing is best requested on bugzilla.gnome.org.
