Apparently windows doesn't support user ownership of files so the work around given to me was to make myself a member of a group. Somewhere in the following line there is a magic code or combination that lets me, as a user member of the the vfatuser group, have write permissions to my data drive. /dev/hda5 /mnt/data vfat auto,user,rw,gid=vfatuser,umask=002 0 0 I can't say that I understand the fstab entry but I do know that it works for me. > > i use this for my fat32 partition on my HD, my microdrive and my > memorystick for my clie. > > this means that i can read and write to it as any user, not just > root, > as default from boot up. > > i'm still quite new to linux (been messing around for a year and a > bit > or so) so if this doesn't help, ignore me! > > regards, > > andrew. > > psyche-list-request@redhat.com wrote: > > >Send Psyche-list mailing list submissions to > > psyche-list@redhat.com > > > >To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > > https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/psyche-list > >or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > > psyche-list-request@redhat.com > > > >You can reach the person managing the list at > > psyche-list-admin@redhat.com > > > >When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > >than "Re: Contents of Psyche-list digest..." > > > > > >Today's Topics: > > > > 1.
