Thanks for your response.

RH8.0 has both mc and debugfs installed but unfortunately they work for
ext2 only.  

I am not aware of 'recover'.  It can't be found in RH8.0
google search found that the kind of file system used is eg.ext2,
reiserFS, vfat not ext3.  Its version is "v1.3c"

Any other suggestion?
