The Cyrix 686 (who reached 200 Megahertz in P-rating) is certainly more powerful than a P75. But it will NOT work with a kernel compiled for Pentium. The AMD K6 will work with a Pentium kernel but there are fair chances for it being slower with a Pentium kernel than with a 386 one (it will be slower on the C parts).
