If you dont have an /etc/hosts file that would be a problem
you need to create it with permisions
owner root
group root
664
and it should look something like this
looking at 7.3 can someone verify the same for 8.0, don't know why it
would change.
# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1	localhost.localdomain	localhost
your.ip.add.ress    domain.com         alias
