After I installed ALSA with the snd-via686 driver, ALSA sound output works great, but it broke esd. When ALSA isn't outputting sound, esd sound output is incredibly garbled. I am using ALSA on my laptop because the OSS drivers are very problematic, throwing tons of static and pops, and debug messages in dmesg. Anyone else have this problem with esd and ALSA? Warren
