On a Dell 4500s with RedHat 8.0 with the 845G chip set, getting the
patch from the Intel Site finally solved my problem.

what's your config and xfree log look like?  you may need to add the
option "videoram" "8192" or "16384" as the bios may not have allocated
enough system ram for video use.
