I had terrible trouble two years ago trying to get an LCD monitor to run with XFree86. This was with an nVidia Corporation GeForce 256 DDR card and was not cured by getting the nVidia drivers. X would not come through and I switched to a conventional CRT. I think this was because the monitor only had DVI input. I have not heard of any problems with LCD monitors using a VGA port. I'm thinking again of getting an LCD monitor. My question is whether it's worth getting an LCD monitor with a DVI input. If it won't work with linux (RedHat 7.3 or 8.0), forget it. If it will work, is it worth the extra money? Stefan PS All this is moot until I get a replacement graphics card (the same or its update I hope).
