Hello, I'm trying to understand how I can configure GNOME login scripts to work nicely with different versions of GNOME. My problem is that we have a network consisting of Red Hat 6.2 and Red Hat 7.2 machines. We are using NIS/NFS so that users may log onto any machine and have access to all of their settings and files. The machines are running the default versions of GNOME they were distributed with. Therefore when an a user from a Red Hat 7.2 machine logs into a Red Hat 6.2 machine, they're settings are incorrect, and they generally have a difficult time opening applications, or doing anything. These machines are used for software testing, so we need to keep each distribution as unmodified as possible, otherwise I would consider bringing all the machines up to the same version of GNOME. I'd like to know if it's possible to write a script file that will automatically detect which version of GNOME they are logging into and then redirect them to using configuration files for that particular version of GNOME, or maybe this is a common problem and a cleaner solution already exists? I'd also like to ask for any pointers to information which would help me to write a script to accomplish this. I've already asked quite a few different groups, and it seems like my only solution may be to write a custom script. Thank you, John Matthews JMatthews@lio.aacisd.com
