We do not see this problem when IP bonding is disabled. Also, the switching from 100 to 1000 noted by Nicolas does not occur on my system. Also recall that this is not a "hard" problem". The problem occurs only 10% of the time. wr ++++++ Nicolas Cuissard wrote : On my server, the link speed cannot be detected at first but is set to 1000Mbps just after : eth0: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-SX (B2) PCI-X 64-bit 133MHz found at mem dc000000, IRQ 169, node addr 001e4f32f79e eth1: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5708 1000Base-SX (B2) PCI-X 64-bit 133MHz found at mem da000000, IRQ 185, node addr 001e4f32f7a0 bonding: bond0: Warning: failed to get speed and duplex from eth0, assumed to be 100Mb/sec and Full. bonding: bond0: enslaving eth0 as a backup interface with an up link. Does this happen while not doing NIC bonding? It looks like a NIC problem not a nic-bonding issue, maybe a drive issue. I have a system setup with IP bonding. The NIC cards are 1gig, but sometimes, not always, I get this error ( below ) which makes the NICs into 100Mbps.
