Stripe-width (mkfs.ext3 option) missing

Does anybody know why is stripe-width option of mkfs.ext3 missing on
RHEL 5.3? (Actualy, CentOS here.)

I'm running I/O tests related to RAID, LVM and EXT3 alignment, in
order to get better performance on my SAN, and that option is oftenly
mentioned in documentations and tutorials. It doesn't matter its
value, once I set the correct stride-size? (Maybe the calculation for
it has been done automagicaly since the option was removed?)

Thank you.
