Permissions are the same in this machine with problems... I compared them with the passwd file from other machine that's working correctly.

Hello all, I need some help with this in a RH 8.0
Does anybody know how to fix this?? :
login as: arlv810g
arlv810g@viruswall's password:
id: cannot find name for user ID 502
id: cannot find name for group ID 503
id: cannot find name for user ID 502
[I have no name!@viruswall arlv810g]$
It happens with all the users on the system, but it doesn't happen with root:
My first reaction is to ask about permissions on /etc/passwd
