Problems with Cups 1.3.7-8

I have been using RedHat systems for print servers for a long time, but the new cups program is not
working for me.

I am unable to get my new RedHat system to share its printers with other RedHat systems or with my mac.

The new print server is running 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 with cups 1.3.7-8.el5_3.4

The clients are running 2.4.21-58.ELsmp and Mac OS 10.5.6

I created the print queues on the new print server using the gui printer configuration. I believe that is system-config-printer. The server settings have been set to "Share published printers". I have selinux disabled. I have iptables set to allow connections on port 631.

The printer I have been testing has the following entry in /etc/ printcap. I have tried the Device URI with and without the :9100 port on the end.

<Printer gc-hp106ps>
Info HP Laserjet 9000 with postscript driver
Location GeoChem 106
DeviceURI lpd://128.148.124.126:9100
State Idle
StateTime 1241550146
Accepting Yes
Shared Yes
JobSheets none none
QuotaPeriod 0
PageLimit 0
KLimit 0
OpPolicy default
ErrorPolicy stop-printer
</Printer>

cupsd.conf has been edited to contain. I have tried the connections with the two various "Listen" lines

DefaultShared yes
# Allow remote access
Port 631
#Listen /var/run/cups/cups.sock
Listen *:631
# Share local printers on the local network.
Browsing On
BrowseOrder allow,deny
	allow 128.148.nnn.*
	allow 128.148.mmm.*
BrowseAddress @LOCAL
DefaultAuthType Basic
<Location />
  # Allow shared printing...
  Order allow,deny
  Allow 128.148.nnn.*
  Allow 128.148.mmm.*
</Location>

Error messages on the RedHat client:

Network host 'newserver.network.brown.edu' is busy, down, or unreachable; will retry...

The Mac client reports:

Attempting to connect to server for printer gc-hp106ps
Network host server is busy;

The Mac' s log file contains:

In the /var/log/cups/error_log on the server, I am only getting messages about

update_cups_browse: Refused 183 bytes from  ...

/var/log/messages contains

May 5 16:56:52 geops2 cupsd[2787]: *** WARNING *** The programme 'cupsd' uses the Apple Bonjour compatiblity layer of Avahi. May 5 16:56:52 geops2 cupsd[2787]: *** WARNING *** Please fix your application to use the native API of Avahi! May 5 16:56:52 geops2 cupsd[2787]: *** WARNING *** For more information see <http://0pointer.de/avahi-compat?s=libdns_sd&e=cupsd>

I understand that this is not a problem. But if it is, how do I fix it.
