Hi there; Domain refers exclusively to the domain_namespace: a group of hosts, each with its unique name to which a common domain name is appended and thus sharing a domain namespace... www.linux.tld , xxx.linux.tld , zzz.linux.tld ... Zone refers to a collection of data which not only holds the host to ip information, but also which hosts are responsible for the domain, which hosts are mail exchangers for the domain, who's responsible for maintaining the domain information, whether there are or not subdomains... In the example you coined yourself: '_name' would be the host name ; 'linux' would be the domain name and 'top_' would be the the top level domain... Believe it or not, this is harder to explain than to understand...
