Bruce,

I would suggest to take a look at the man pages of the two process ...
It should explain you why it is not advisable to disable them. Or at
least does it help you to understand the consequences if you do so:

	-> http://linux.die.net/man/1/dbus-daemon-1
	-> http://linux.die.net/man/8/hald
