Hi, We are running RHEL 3. From what I can see in the man pages RHEL should be able to print the facility.priority in the syslog message, however all of the messages in the log don't contain any information on the facility or (especially) the priority. For example, in other versions of unix we run, the logging prints the priority as: Nov 8 06:38:29 my.host.com locks_arcstn[24097]: [ID 912228 daemon.error] Msg #26002, Level: 16, State: 1. Where facility = daemon priority = error = syslog priority 3 Therefore it is very straightforward to grep all messages of a certain priority and below. In contrast our RHEL prints a sample like this: Nov 8 07:33:30 my.host.name.com xinetd[2326]: START: uptmagnt pid=10502 from=1.1.1.1 Devoid of any priority or facility that I can ascertain. I have looked at the man pages but did not see any option or switch for syslogd, syslog.conf or /etc/sysconfig/syslog. Does anyone have any clue how this might be accomplished? The few times I called RedHat I couldn't get an answer for this one. Thanks, Tim De Vries
