I would advise backing up and completely re-installing. I just supported someone who only had one package error out, but then he had unmet dependencies, so then he went through the old "RPM hell" from days of old. In addition, there were issues with getting updates that I was working on with our satellite admin. He could not get updates at all and we were not sure how to back out of it.
