I have this in my /etc/pam.d/system-auth: password requisite /lib/security/$ISA/pam_cracklib.so retry=3 minlen=8 lcredit=-1 ucredit=-1 dcredit=-1 retry=3 That requires one upper, one lower, one digit, and a minimum of 8 characters. I'm not sure how to remember the last X passwords.
