read the yum.conf man page, it has an exclude list you can add to the configuration file. Here's the quote from the man page.

exclude
List of packages to exclude from updates or installs. This should be a space separated list. Shell globs using wildcards (eg. * and ?)
             are allowed.

Hello,

I was just wondering how do I stop "yum" from updating to the newest
redhat-release (I.E. Kernel) but continue to get all the newest packages?
I've looked at using the security plugin option, but I want to keep getting
everything that gets released (not just security updates).

I know in the 4 and below days we had the option to exclude items in the
up2date configuration, can I simply add exclude or skip lists in the yum
configuration file?

Thanks,
