Ok, from what I found on yet another website, my ACL is now:
access to attrs=userPassword
by self write
by * auth
access to *
by * read
This works, and lets users change their passwords... EXCEPT that on the
ldap server itself, where it still wants the old password. I've tried
this, and a coworker's tried, and we both, as users, have the same thing
happening. This was why I added that shadowLastChange, which didn't seem
to help.
Any suggestions?

Or Nagios: http://www.nagios.org in combination with nagiosgrapher to get
some nice graphs and trends.
Takes some time to set it up, but thats with all the monitoring tools. For
a lot of things you want to monitor you can use snmp (there are more
ways). The comunity is pretty lively. I implemented this system in a
network monitoring 245 hosts and around 800 services. From cpu, disk
space, temperature, ups system states, brocade switch statusses, web and
mailservices, availability of cluster rescources, etc, etc.
Only thing is that you are better of using the command line to configure
the nagios config files. But if you like linux, then you should be
confortable withthis when you get the hang of how the config files are set
up. There are some webtools, but they have their downsides.

What level of monitoring are u looking for? If you wanted to monitor ur
system resources health status, u probably can use IPMItool which is an
open source package .
But for that u need to have IPMI enabled at the hardware level. U may
have to check the same with ur hardware quote or contact ur vendor.
Otherwise u can make use of Net-SNMP package which is freely
downloadable from net.

I currently run the dump command -
/sbin/dump Ouf /software/dump.new / and wanted to know if there is a way
of
restoring only the data that has changed from this dump. e.g. Files in
/etc
tend to change quite a bit but 95% of the dump does not need to be
restored. This is to reduce the restore time as the dump is currently
15gig
and takes ages to restore. Is there any better way of doing this also? Any
advice on this would be great.

Are u using restore command to do extract the backup u created using dump?
If its, there are options available for restoring single files and
directory trees separately. Please see the manpage of restore command.

to take backup/restore to tape /disk

From the error messages, it seems like gfortran command is not present
in ur Redhat server. This command comes with gcc-gfortran RPM which will
be present in ur Redhat repository. Install this package and try to
compile the program again !

I saw an interesting link which talks about dump/restore command options.
I could not try the options here as I don't have a tape available right
now.

about the options of restore command.
