Also, could using a virtual server work? I am just wondering if you can place something like CENT as the host OS then run VMWare and maybe create a virtual machine with RHEL5? Perhaps this VM will not require direct hardware support for the controller? You might be able to virtualize part of your infrastructure as well and run a legacy OS which supports your controller - then, include this box in the virtual infrastructure. Maybe the real question is why is it that you need to run RHEL5 on a 4 year old box? I am not saying there is a problem with it, but is it essential that REHL5 is run on this one? Just some thoughts for you... -----Original Message----- From: redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew Bacchi Sent: Friday, October 19, 2007 11:41 AM To: General Red Hat Linux discussion list Subject: Re: Adaptec SCSI RAID 2000S I hope you've already solved this problem. I checked Adaptec's site first thing, but no luck (unless you want to install Windows or SUSE). A bit of research told me that I *should* be able to use the i2o driver for it, and I've gotten it as far as installing. But somehow the grub bootloader doesn't work. I found http://i2o.shadowconnect.com/rhel.php but after following those instructions I'm still at a point where, on bootup, I only get the word 'GRUB' on the screen and that's it. I believe the i2o driver, which I manually specified during the install with 'linux noprobe' etc. etc. doesn't load up again after a reboot, for some reason. Still working on it, but any suggestions will be appreciated! Thank you. -----Original Message----- From: redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:redhat-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Andrew Bacchi Sent: 19 October 2007 16:41 To: General Red Hat Linux discussion list Subject: Re: Adaptec SCSI RAID 2000S I hope you've already solved this problem. But anyway, this box is kind of a test-lab Oracle server, and needs to be RHEL5 for that purpose. I believe it will be pretty heavily used, so virtualizing it won't happen - I'll bet my last penny on that, and on the Springboks, by the way! :) I think the next thing to do is to perhaps flash the Adaptec adapter's BIOS to a newer version, and then see if the driver will load...I'm pretty certain that I've exhausted all other options for now. Will see what the boss says on Monday... Thanks very much for your reply. First, it installs (unlike certain other software I can think of), and figures itself out, and it's up and running. Second, it does about 90% of the systems admin stuff very nicely - playing with ldap and PAM was a lot easier with it. mark > > >On Oct 19, 2007, at 9:09 AM, Barry Brimer wrote: > >>> I have been using printtool to set up printers on our RH >>> printserver to share out >>> to the Macs, Windows and other unix computers on our network. >>> About a month >>> ago printtool stopped working. You may need to install other drivers. I recently got an HP 1018 laserjet at home, and had to ->build<- the driver, plus set up cups so that when it rebooted, it automagically d/l some firmware into the printer. mark ------------------------------ Message: 6 Date: Fri, 19 Oct 2007 13:28:55 -0700 From: Chuck <chuck.carson@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Openldap package incomplete on RHEL 5?
