phpMyAdmin on a Linux machine

Hello,
 Iam sorry if I ask php question here. 
 Iam trying to install phpMyAdmin on a RedHat linux (Version 4). I have
installed  MySQL,PHP,Apache and Firefox.When I start
http://localhost/phpMyAdmin I get an error:

MySQL said:
1272 = Unknown collation: 'utf8_unicode_ci'


My config.inc.php file contains the following.
