I don't even have the firewall turned on on the client so how could it be the client having the problem?

client# service iptables status
Firewall is stopped.

I get this error

client# rpcinfo -p server
rpcinfo: can't contact portmapper: rpcinfo: RPC: Timed out

What does that error mean?

It means that the client isn't able to contact 'server' on port 111.

Check whether there is a firewall running between the client and 'server', or a firewall on 'server' which is blocking access. Even though other clients can connect to 'server' and get rpcinfo from it, there might be a firewall which is restricting which clients can contact 'server' on that port.
