There are some processes that are not started by default. Portmap nfs.

Services portmap start
Services nfs start

If the shares are setup in /etc/exports starting nfs will execute the
exportfs command for you.

Subject: Mounting nfs file systems

Why is it so difficult to mount nfs file systems (RedHat 9)? I'm trying
to follow all the instructions regarding exporting, hosts etc but it's
just not working. Are there any good diagnostic tools which will give me
a clue as to what is going on, as at the moment I don't have any idea as
to where the connection is failing?

Andy
