In order to create a new NIS server: Do you want the master to use the local files for domain sources? If not, create a domain source directory ( eg /etc/NIS) and put the domain source files in there. Think of a proper domainname and configure this into /var/yp.conf Modify the /var/yp/Makefile so that $(YPSRCDIR) points to the sourcefiles of your domain. Cd to /usr/lib/yp Issue the ypinit –m command, and follow instructions Note that on redhat 3 workstation installations, the ypserv package will not be available. you can download source and make it, it works ok, Remember to make some slave servers using the "ypinit -s $master" Matthijs Sneijders CORUS Research, Development & Technology Building 3G16 room 3-312 P.O.
