I have a number of RHEL4 Update3 web servers.

All were installed at the same time, and are kept up to date via RHN.

My question is why the output of md5sum is as follows:

root@web1: ~ # md5sum /bin/ps
3123a3d974c68de301114b5eb9b09b73 /bin/ps

root@web2: ~ # md5sum /bin/ps
967c0fa08867a8031ccd4d28744d7a0f /bin/ps

root@web3: ~ # md5sum /bin/ps
c22815c887f4d0847c6253cb909b6870 /bin/ps

All 3 servers show the following

-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 66416 Nov 21 2005 /bin/ps

Can anyone see what would cause this ?

prelinking most likely.

You can use the verify option to rpm to check if they are correct.
