Just to help anyone else out there; I removed the tomcat rpm's, just
downloaded the non-rpm package from the tomcat website, and it works
fine.

P.S. I've not made any changes to the default server.xml file located in
/etc/tomcat5/server.xml ; I'm surprised this is actually being tough to
play with, since the tomcat installer on windows installed the app and
it was running without issue out of the box....any help would be
appreciated.

Here is a snapshot of the startup of the tomcat service: ; I noticed
that this box had multiple version of java installed; 1.4.2-ibm and
1.5.0 ; I removed version 1.5.0 and I believe that I've fixed the
symbolic links in /etc/alternatives; any ideas?
