doesnt sound right , why would someone hack a box and render it unusable???
troubleshooting techniques have to be followed here, find out what you did
before the box started giving you problems.

Before rebooting commands like grep etc was working ??
Some body has run rootkit and damage the linux.
Please check with the rootkit checker.

n the machine hangs
I can boot through the rescue CD and see all partions but what could i
do to solve this problem
the only thing i recently did was upgrade clamav but now goin into
rescue mode i have uninstalled clamav.
i also ran FSCK n fili systems report no error
